Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I wrestled at NCAA Division II Nebraska-Omaha and at the conclusion of my eligibility, I still had no clue as to where my career would end up in. I almost went into Cardiac Rehabilitation. Thank goodness I decided to make try at conducting strength and conditioning for our wrestling team and that it worked out. I soon thereafter was offered and took the job as the assistant director of strength and conditioning for my alma mater. I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to design and implement sports performance programming for our football team, our wrestling team, our female swimming and diving team, and at one point our female tennis team.

About 2-3 years into my job, I was introduced to CrossFit by a very good friend and the rest is history. I never believed I would spend my career in the public sector of fitness as I didn’t think anyone would be interested in the kind of exercise we employed in a college weight room let alone pay for it. Little did I know where CrossFit would grow to be in such a short amount of time. I’m amazed every day that I get the opportunity to work in my own gym helping others achieve their fitness goals. I love it.

I’m a very lucky and blessed person.

Why did you become a trainer?

I didn’t know I wanted to be a CrossFit coach or coach in general until I decided to try and be my wrestling team’s strength coach. After that, I fell in love with the thought of helping others reach milestones and blast through obstacles they never thought possible.

I can’t get enough of when an athlete of mine puts the work in. Yes, I love when they accomplish a goal such as their first pull up but I revel more in the process they went through to get there. Patience, persistence, and trust. Now, that’s badass.

What’s your favorite CrossFit movement?

I’d have to say pull ups. I love the chest to bar variety.

What is your favorite cheat food?

I’m a big fan of breakfast food, any and all. Eggs, bacon, pancakes, oatmeal, coffee.

What’s your favorite Superhero and why?

My favorite superhero has always been the Silver Surfer. You can imagine my excitement when he appeared in cinema in the second modern era Fantastic 4 movie. It was awesome. And now, with the current Marvel movies heading in the direction of the Infinity Gauntlet glove and Thanos, I’m guessing (more like hoping) he will be making a reappearance.

Nerd I know but I just dig comic book heroes in general and the ability they have to bring light to the human race in it’s darkest moments. The Silver Surfer is definitely my favorite.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

For me, CrossFit was just the next step. I had been teaching courses through a different program and became stagnant. CrossFit held the element of challenge I needed. Once I began, I just wanted more. I like being strong; I like starting my day with a challenge and knowing that I can be better than the day before, it’s all up to me. A bad day at CrossFit is still an excellent day in my life.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

Towards the end of 2011 I was really uncomfortable in my own skin. I was on a path of eating unhealthy and having low energy constantly. For my Christmas gift to myself that year I signed up for Farrell’s Extreme Bodyshaping. Getting back to working out and eating right felt fantastic. One of my friends had been doing CrossFit and always spoke highly of it. I went in for a free session and was hooked. I had forgot how much I had enjoyed lifting weights in high school!

Why did you become a trainer?

The nature of every box being able to do their own programming leads to a lot of different coaching styles and practices. CrossFit gets a bad rep due to poor/uneducated coaching that causes people to get injured. I decided that I wanted to help change the public’s view of CrossFit by becoming a coach, a good one. Plus, I absolutely love CrossFit so the more people I can get hooked on it, the more friends I will have to lift with!

This is tough because I love food! Pepperoni and black olive pizza and any type of ice cream! Oh yeah, and sweet potato fries from Jimi D’s in Aksarben.

Why did you get into fitness (and CrossFit)?

I loved sports growing up and tried everything from basketball (not my thing) to lifting weights, throwing shot put, and running cross country (my favorite). At some point during life there was a multi-year dry spell without fitness, leaving me sluggish and wearing larger clothes. I felt better after starting step and other traditional classes, but hit the jackpot after starting kettlebell training at Omaha Elite Kettlebell in 2010. As well, I first heard of CrossFit in 2010 from a Muscle & Fitness Hers article and thought it sounded awesome but didn’t pursue it. I had also been working with a personal trainer at Life Time Fitness; he moved and matched me with another trainer – Kyle Kasperbauer. Kyle didn’t mention CrossFit at all, but I do vividly remember one session he had me do a workout that he said was called Filthy Fifty – I will never forget it…..! Late in 2011, I was really excited to find out that there was a CrossFit box (now Vise DT) just around the corner from work. I dropped in on a few classes, joined in mid 2012 and haven’t looked back since!

Why did you become a trainer?

I want to help others discover and cultivate the joy and many other benefits of fitness!
